Next Generation Committee
Next Generation Committee (NGC) is a group of young environmental professionals, including students from different universities, scientists/engineers and those who are interested in the environmental field.
Next Generation Committee Mission
- Creating and providing opportunities for young professionals to develop skills and build relationships that advance their careers; and
- Raising the public awareness of environmental protection.
About Next Generation Committee
Each year the New Generation Committee hosts large events, including their annual job hunting workshop, beach cleanup, assistance organizing the Los Angeles Environmental Forum and SCCAEPA annual convention, and social gathering events like hikes and holiday meet-ups.
Beach Cleanup Activity
NGC initiated the Beach Cleanup events to engage more people to protect the coastal environment in Southern California. The events were co-hosted with various consulting firms.
While doing good deeds in cleaning beaches, students had the opportunities to interact with experienced environmental professionals in a relaxing atmosphere, and to build connections with their potential future colleagues.
Although the event has been suspended due to the pandemic, NGC is planning the next event and will continue to coordinate with consulting firms to host the next event once conditions permit.
Job Hunting Workshop
NGC hosts annual job hunting workshops. Invited panelists are established professionals from government agencies, academy, and consulting firms. They share the stories of their own career path and recruiting experiences, and provide tips in analyzing job announcement, preparing of resumes, and interview skills.
There was professor from MBA school sharing communication skills. There was also experienced attorney talking about immigration/employment requirements for international students.
The workshops also feature mock interview sessions where invited panelists act as interviewers. Panelists provide real-time feedback and evaluation to help improve students interview skills.
